A 15-year-old boy was found dead and two others were injured after an altercation between teens led to a shooting in Rialto Wednesday, officials said.
A group of teenagers were in an argument that escalated to shots being fired on the 200 block of East Randall Avenue before 3 p.m., the Rialto Police Department said.
Witnesses told police that about 10 to 15 shots were fired during the altercation, according to Capt. Anthony Vega of the department.
Family members at the scene identified the victim as 15-year-old Davonte Jonathan Washington, who was a father of an infant. Police had not yet confirmed the identification and had originally said the victim was 16.
“I don’t know if he was running but they shot him on the church lawn. That’s all I know,” said Petranella Amos, the victim’s grandmother. “He loved life, loved skateboarding, loved partying.”
Another teenage boy was also shot and is expected to survive after being rushed to a hospital with severe but non-life threatening injuries, officials said.
A adult female bystander was shot by a stray round and is also expected to survive, according to police.
The shooter, who is still at large, was described to police as a light-skinned black male teen or a hispanic male teen, last seen wearing a red sweater. Police believe the suspect took off on foot.
A weapon was not recovered at the scene, according to police.
The home where the shooting took place was not the residence of the victim, officials said.
The investigation is ongoing and no further information was immediately available.
