A 17-year-old girl was in custody Friday following the fatal stabbing of a man in the Baldwin Hills neighborhood of South Los Angeles the night before.
The stabbing was reported about 7:15 p.m. Thursday in an alley behind an apartment complex the 4000 block of Nicolet Avenue, Los Angeles Police Department Officer D. Orris said.
Arriving officers located a 21-year-old man who had been stabbed at least once in the chest.
The man, who has not been identified, died after being transported to a local hospital, Orris said.
Witnesses told investigators they heard an argument in the alley before the stabbing.
Police were still searching for the suspect, described as a 17-year-old girl, Friday afternoon. But by Friday night, she had been taken into custody, LAPD confirmed.
Officials could not provide further details on the circumstances, and only said the investigation was ongoing.
Authorities are looking for surveillance video and more witnesses to the stabbing.
Neighbor Tanja Reece told KTLA the victim lived in the apartment building where the stabbing occurred.
“I don’t know what happened, but it’s really sad on Thanksgiving,” she said. “I just heard scuffling, and it woke us up. And I heard screaming. And that was it.”
