Two people were killed when a car burst into flames after being rear-ended by another vehicle driving at a high-rate of speed on the 15 Freeway in Corona early Sunday, authorities said.
A vehicle was traveling southbound on the 15 Freeway at about 1:15 a.m. when it crashed into a car just north of the 91 Freeway, according to a California Highway Patrol dispatcher who did not give her name.
The car caught fire, killing the two occupants inside, the dispatcher said.
Their names have not yet been released.
The unidentified driver of the other vehicle was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to the dispatcher.
Witnesses told CHP officers that the car reached speeds of up to 120 mph prior to the collision, according to the log.
A SigAlert was issued just before 2 a.m., and three lanes on the freeway were blocked, the CHP’s incident log stated.
The lanes were reopened at about 5:30 a.m. and the SigAlert was canceled, the incident log reported
