Two people were killed in an aircraft crash at Apple Valley Airport on Sunday, prompting all flights in and out to be halted, the Apple Valley Fire Protection District tweeted.
The crash occurred at the Apple Valley Airport, located at 21600 Corwin Road, according to a tweet around 2:20 p.m. The aircraft involved was a L39 Jet.
Two people died in the crash, the district said. It was not known if anyone else was involved in the incident, but several websites showed the L39 Jet is a small aircraft with two seats.
Crews worked to extinguish a fire after multiple explosions occurred after the crash, and all flights in and out of the airport were halted.
The Apple Valley Airport has two runways and offers maintenance, rentals and flight training, according to a San Bernardino County website.
Federal Aviation Administration investigators were at the scene early Sunday evening, according to a tweet from Cindy Bachman, spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
No other information was immediately available.
