The Costa Mesa Police Department is looking for the person they believed stabbed two people, one of them fatally, Tuesday night.

The first victim, a 22-year-old man, was stabbed at about 11 p.m. in the 1700 block of Placentia Avenue, police said in a news release. He was declared dead at the scene.

During the investigation, officers learned that a second man, 19, “had been attacked minutes prior” near Placentia Avenue and Shalimar Drive, the release said.

That site is about two blocks from the 1700 block of Placentia Avenue.

The second man was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital, where he was taken by family members.

“CMPD investigators believe the same suspect(s) were involved in both incidents and are possibly gang related,” the release said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Ramon Hernandez at 714-754-5097.
