A 3-year-old girl who nearly drowned at a community pool was hospitalized after being pulled from the water by a bystander late Saturday afternoon, Orange County authorities said.
Emergency personnel responded to the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center in Orange (map) after receiving a call of a near drowning shortly before 6 p.m., according to Capt. Mike Summers with the Orange County Fire Authority.
The toddler had been playing on the first step of the pool when her parent looked away for less than a minute and she fell into the water, Summers said.
A bystander pulled her out and was able to resuscitate the girl by performing CPR, according to Summers.
She was taken to Children’s Hospital of Orange County where she was last reported to be in stable condition.
It was not immediately clear whether the person who pulled her out was a lifeguard, but Summers said there were an adequate number of lifeguards on duty when the incident occurred.
