Authorities continue to search for the driver who caused a violent collision that injured five people in Seal Beach Saturday evening.

The crash involved two vehicles along the Pacific Coast Highway and Main Street around 7:14 p.m.

Moments before the crash, authorities had received 911 calls reporting a reckless driver out of Huntington Beach, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.

The collision, however, was not the result of a pursuit, Seal Beach Police said.

Five people who were riding in a grey sedan, all teenagers, were hospitalized in critical but stable condition, police said.

The suspect’s vehicle careened into a bus stop at which point he fled the scene on foot.

“There was a big bang … like an explosion went off. It was huge,” an eyewitness told KTLA. “I just ran across the street and I ran to the first car. I saw him [the suspect] just take off running so I went to the other car, the one that got hit, and I saw what was inside and it was young girls. We put two and two together and realized [the suspect] was running from the police. He caused the accident and he didn’t have a care for anybody’s life.”

Police tell KTLA the suspect is a male believed to be 18-20 years old, around 5′ 10″ who was wearing a maroon shirt. Anyone with information was urged to call police immediately.
