Authorities warned residents to shelter in place for more than two hours Thursday afternoon after they said an 80-year-old man shot two people at an apartment complex in Mill Valley, Calif.
The order was lifted shortly before 6 p.m. when authorities announced that the man was found dead inside an apartment from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, FOX KTVU reported.
“The shelter in place has been lifted as any danger to the community is over,” the Marin County Sheriff’s Office tweeted.
Sgt. Brenton Schneider told reporters that deputies responded to the complex shortly before 3:30 p.m. and found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds. Deputies carried them to waiting ambulances and began evacuating neighboring apartments. It was unclear whether the dead man was found in the same apartment as the two wounded victims.
