A crash left a big rig’s trailer hanging over the side of a 14 Freeway overpass in Acton on Wednesday, prompting a SigAlert and creating an unusual scene for passing motorists.
A traffic collision call came into the California Highway Patrol from the Ward Road overpass at 1:41 p.m., according to CHP Officer Michele Bond.
One of two trailers being towed by a big rig went over the side of the overcrossing, Bond said.
Video taken by a passing driver showed a flatbed hanging from the overpass, with the truck’s cab having crashed into the embankment below.
The CHP log indicated the driver was taken to a hospital for minor injuries. The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the scene.
About 30 gallons of diesel fuel spilled into the dirt after the crash, the log stated.
The big rig did not appear to be blocking lanes on the 14 Freeway, but a SigAlert was issued for the No. 2 lane at 3:08 p.m.
The SigAlert remained in effect more than an hour and a half later.
Both trailers were empty, according to CHP’s traffic log.
