A 28-year-old Fullerton man was in jail Monday on suspicion of crashing his Ford Explorer into a man in a wheelchair, killing him, and then fleeing the scene, police said.

Brandon Joel Busse was taken into custody late Saturday, according to a new release from the Fullerton Police Department.

Busse allegedly drove into Marc Borgfield, 49, of Buena Park in the 2600 block of West Orangethorpe Avenue just before midnight Aug. 18.

Marc Borgfield, 49, was fatally struck in Fullerton on Aug. 18, 2014.

Busse was charged with one felony count of hit-and-run causing injury or death, according to police. He was due to be arraigned Tuesday morning in Santa Ana, according to police.

His late-model white Explorer was discovered in the parking lot of a Tustin motel where he was staying, police said.

Borgfield’s body was found in the middle of the road and outside of a marked crosswalk. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was released Aug. 20.

Busse was being held at the Central Men’s Jail on $50,000 bail, Orange County inmate records indicated.
