Alleged street takeover crash leaves woman dead in South Los Angeles 

A woman was killed and several others hurt after a collision involving vehicles leaving a reported street takeover in L.A.’s Willowbrook neighborhood. 

According to preliminary information, the crash occurred at 12:45 a.m. Saturday at El Segundo Boulevard and South Central Avenue. 

At least one of the vehicles involved was associated with a street takeover convoy that was leaving the area, witnesses said. 

Video taken shortly after the crash obtained by KTLA shows a wrecked black Infiniti sedan that had come to rest on a sidewalk along South Central Boulevard; the other vehicle involved, a black Toyota hatchback, sustained heavy damage and was found at the corner of El Segundo and South Central. 

A press release issued by CHP late Saturday morning revealed that the driver of the Toyota, identified as 32-year-old Kimberly Dunne of Los Angeles, was driving southbound on Central when it broadsided the Infiniti.

The Infiniti driver, an unidentified man, fled the scene after the crash and has not been apprehended, CHP said. There were two female passengers in his car; one of them was hospitalized with moderate injuries, while the other sustained major injuries and later died, police said.

The deceased victim was later identified by the L.A. County Coroner’s Office as 22-year-old Brenda Mejia.

CHP identified the injured passenger as 20-year-old Sharlyn Vaca.

According to the release, impaired driving is believed to be a factor in the collision.
