Armed Robber Seen Smiling on Surveillance Video Sought in Buena Park Hold Up

Authorities are searching for an armed robber who was seen smiling on surveillance video after holding up a Buena Park gas station Tuesday.

Police are searching for a man seen smiling following a robbery in Buena Park. The robbery was caught on surveillance video and shared by the store’s owner.

The incident took place at a Mobil station in the 5900 block of Beach Boulevard just after 8:30 a.m., Cpl. Bret Carter with the Buena Park Police Department said.

Surveillance video showed the robber at the cashier’s counter wearing a camouflage hat, sunglasses and holding a gun.

Eventually, the robber goes behind the counter and begins to take the money from the register himself.

Another customer entered the store, unaware of the robbery taking place, and began talking to the cashier, store manager Wallis Cyril said.

“The cashier began to tell the customer, ‘call 911, call 911,’” Cyril said.

The customer walked outside without completing her purchase then made eye contact with the exiting robber, according to Cyril.

The robber then got into his car and drove away.

Surveillance video showed the robber had a smile on his face as he exited the store.

He was described as a Hispanic man between 40 and 45 years old, weighing 150 to 160 pounds.

He was wearing a black shirt and jacket with light-colored pants and was believed to be driving a black car that was seen leaving the parking lot.

The man may also be responsible for a series of robberies in Los Angeles County, Carter said.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the Buena Park Police Department at 714-562-3901.
