Pasadena police have launched a homicide investigation after a motorist discovered a body along on the Angeles Crest Highway early Wednesday.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies initially responded to the scene just after 1 a.m. before handing over the case to Pasadena officials, which have jurisdiction of the stretch of the highway where the remains were found, Pasadena police Lt. Pete Hettema said.
The person had been shot but investigators have not confirmed whether that was the cause of death, Hetteme said. The person appeared to be a man in his 20s, the lieutenant added.
The victim was male and had “gunshot wounds,” Pasadena police confirmed in a statement released Wednesday afternoon.
The discovery was made at mile marker 26.8 by witnesses who were driving by, saw the body and called 911, police said. The mile marker is approximately in the area between the La Cañada Flintridge boundary and the Angeles National Forest boundary.
Authorities provided no further details about the incident.
