A bomb squad was called to East Los Angeles Wednesday after someone reported seeing a possible pipe bomb near a Mobile gas station.
The suspicious device was reported just after 6 a.m. near the intersection of South Atlantic Boulevard and Via Corona Street (map), Sgt. John Sagardia of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
The bomb squad was sent to the scene and closed the surrounding roads during the investigation, Sagardia said.
Aerial video from Sky5 showed South Atlantic Boulevard was shut down from East Beverly Boulevard to East 4th Street.
None of the nearby business were evacuated during the investigation, according to Sagardia.
The explosives team later determined the device was safe and did not contain explosive material, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Department.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
