‘Cajon Crawl’ to Reduce Lanes on Interstate 15 for 5 Consecutive Weekends

The so-called “Cajon Crawl” got underway Friday night, reducing the number of lanes from four to two on Interstate 15 near San Bernardino County for five consecutive weekends.

About one mile on the northbound side of the freeway between Highway 138 and Oak Hill Road will be impacted for 55 hours, according to the California Department of Transportation.

Closures began about 10 p.m. Friday and are scheduled to end at 3 p.m. Monday for the weekends of Aug. 8, Aug. 15, Aug. 22, Sept. 5 and Sept. 12.

Shoulder access will be restricted to make room for emergency responders, and the California Highway Patrol would enforce a 60 MPH speed limit, Caltrans stated.

The closure is part of the Cajon Pass Rehabilitation Project, a $120 million plan to replace concrete slabs in the area.
