Car Plunges Off 118 Freeway On-Ramp in Pacoima; One Dead, 3 Injured

One person was killed and three others injured when their vehicle plunged off an on-ramp to the 118 Freeway in Pacoima Wednesday night, according to CHP.

The single-vehicle crash occurred around 6:34 p.m. on the San Fernando Road on-ramp to the westbound 118 Freeway, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick Kimball.

The vehicle went off the on-ramp, down an embankment and rolled over, Kimball said.

“One of the passengers that was sitting in the right rear seat was not wearing her seatbelt, was ejected and sustained fatal injuries,” CHP Sgt. Jacobson said.

The victim, described only as a 24-year-old Hispanic woman, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Los Angeles Fire Department, Kimball said.

No information was released on the extent of the injuries sustained by the other three people in the car.

Clarification: An earlier version of this story included a 200-foot estimate for the distance the vehicle plunged that was provided by CHP. Asked to confirm the figure on Thursday, a spokeswoman for the agency said the vehicle had not dropped that far. The figure has been removed from the story.
