A CHP motorcycle officer was taken to a local hospital after being involved in a collision on the 170 Freeway in North Hollywood on Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision, which CHP said occurred on the northbound 170 just south of Burbank Boulevard shortly after 8 a.m., left the motorcycle overturned, aerial video over the scene showed.
The officer was ejected from the vehicle after being involved in a collision with a Mini Cooper, according to CHP Sgt. Jimmie Ryland.
He added that despite the severity of the crash, the officer sustained only moderate injuries and was expected to be OK.
“Our officer, fortunately, is doing well this morning, he was up and around … from everything we know so far, he’s going to do just fine,” Ryland said.
A short time after the crash, the officer’s motionless body could be seen lying near the freeway’s center divider, several feet away from the damaged vehicle,Sky5 video showed. A CHP cruiser was parked nearby.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics arrived at the crash scene around 8:20 a.m. and carted the injured officer away on a stretcher. He was taken to a local hospital where he was being treated.
His name has not been released.
The driver of the Mini Cooper was not injured, according to Ryland.
A SigAlert was issued on the roadway, and three northbound lanes were temporarily blocked, CHP tweeted around 8:30 a.m. All lanes were reopened shortly after 10:30 a.m, a subsequent tweet stated.
No further details were immediately available about the crash, which remained under investigation.
