A classroom and a school bus were destroyed when multiple suspicious fires broke out at Redlands High School Wednesday morning, officials said.
The Redlands Fire Department responded to a call at 4:15 a.m. about a fire in the bus yard of the high school (map), according to Carl Baker, a spokesman for the city.
Arriving firefighters found a school bus and an empty utility trailer on fire, Baker said. Both were destroyed, and another bus and trailer were also damaged.
Within a few minutes, the Fire Department was alerted that a classroom was also on fire.
Crews broke from the bus fire to extinguish the new blaze, but the classroom — which was an exterior, temporary room — was destroyed, Baker said.
No one was injured as a result of the fires, which were being investigated as arson, Baker said. Redlands police were investigating the possibility that the fires were part of an attempted burglary, according to a news release from Baker.
Redlands High School students and staff were on spring break at the time of incident.
The Redlands Unified School District thanked the Redlands Fire Department in a brief statement.
“As they continue their investigation, we turn our attention toward clean-up and replacement, and will be ready for school to resume on Monday,” the school district stated.
No damage estimate was available.
