A 27-year-old convicted felon who is accused of raping a woman at a park bathroom in Lincoln Heights less than 12 hours after he was released from jail was charged in connection with the case on Thursday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Felony charges against Edgar Alexander Lobos include forcible rape, sodomy by use of force, sexual penetration by foreign object and possession of a firearm by a felon, according to a news release from the DA’s office.

Prosecutors also allege the defendant has prior convictions, including for spousal abuse.

Lobos is scheduled to make his first court appearance sometime after 1:30 p.m. at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center in downtown L.A., according to the release. At the arraignment, prosecutors are expected to ask the judge to increase his bail amount to $3 million.

The defendant, whom police describe as a known gang member, allegedly pulled a gun on the victim around noon Tuesday, forced her into a public restroom and sexually assaulted her, the release stated.

Lobos was released from jail earlier that day, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

“He had been released just after midnight that morning and within 12 hours had victimized another person,” LAPD Capt. William Hayes said Tuesday.

Lobos could be sentenced to up to life in prison if convicted on all charges.
