Explosives team investigates stolen van with suspicious wires left in Downey neighborhood

An explosives team was called to investigate a stolen van that was left in front of a home in Downey Tuesday morning.

The dark-colored van was located near the intersection of Manzanar Avenue and Telegraph Road near the Pico Rivera-Downey border.

Deputies were attempting to approach the van when they heard noises coming from it, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said. They also noticed wires on the front seat, the spokesperson said.

An arson and explosives team was then called in to investigate the vehicle, which was described as being stolen, the Sheriff’s Department’s transit services bureau tweeted. It was unclear where the vehicle was stolen from.

Commuters were asked to avoid the area during the investigation.

The scene was cleared of any danger as of about 10:40 a.m., according to the transit service bureau.
