A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy was taken to a hospital after being dragged by a suspect’s vehicle during a traffic stop in Westmont early Sunday morning, officials said.

The deputy stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation around 2 a.m. in the area of 89th Street and Vermont Avenue in South L.A., officials said.

“During the encounter with the suspect, the deputy was dragged by the suspect vehicle,”  LASD Deputy Armando Viera said.

It’s unclear how the deputy ended up being dragged and for how long.

A short pursuit ensued and the suspect, described only as being female, was taken into custody near Florence and Western avenues, officials said.

The deputy was transported by ambulance to a hospital and later released. Sheriff’s Department officials said she suffered “scrapes and bruises.”

No further details were immediately available.
