A dog attacked two children, including one who had to be hospitalized, as they were walking in Victorville Thursday morning.

The Victorville Police Department was dispatched to the 13800 block of Mesa Linda Avenue following a report of a dog biting a child shortly after 7 a.m., the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department stated in a news release.

Arriving deputies learned that an unknown dog had bitten two children as they were walking to school.

“One child was able to run to safety, while a 7-year-old female suffered multiple injuries,” the Sheriff’s Department stated.

The dog ran off when a resident who lives nearby came outside to help the victim.

The girl was taken by ambulance to Loma Linda University Medical Center for treatment.

No further details about her injuries or condition were immediately available.

Thursday’s attack comes just two days after a man and his mother were attacked by a pack of pit bulls in Azusa. L.A. County Animal Care and Control officers responded to the home and impounded all four dogs.

The two victims were expected to survive.

Earlier this month, pit bulls fatally mauled their owner in Compton.

“He was feeding the dogs, at which point maybe there was an altercation between some of the dogs, and [they] ultimately attacked and mauled the victim,” Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Michael Gomez said.

All 13 dogs involved in that incident were later euthanized.

Anyone with further information about the dog involved in Thursday’s attack was asked to call the Victorville Police Station at 760-241-2911 or the Sheriff’s Department at 760-956-5001.
