Downtown Ventura shooting kills one, critically injures two

A downtown Ventura shooting killed one and injured two others early Sunday morning, according to police.

Several 911 calls were made around 2 a.m. reporting gunshots in the area of Oak and Main Streets. One caller reported seeing an injured person being loaded into a vehicle that then fled the area.


Police found a man with severe injuries and he was transported to a local hospital. He was later pronounced dead.

The man was identified as 20-year-old Anthony Castanon of Santa Paula.

Officers were later notified of additional victims suffering from gunshot wounds. A 17-year-old and 24-year-old were suffering from life-threatening injuries, police said.

Investigators believe the shooting may be gang related.
