Driver dead after car crashes into wall, tree at Porter Ranch park

A driver is dead after they crashed into a wall, then a tree in Porter Ranch early Monday Morning.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Reseda and Sesnon boulevards at about 4:15 a.m., Los Angeles Police Department Officer Terzes said.

The vehicle struck a wall and then a tree before coming to a stop, Terzes added. The driver was declared dead at the scene.

Aerial footage from Sky5 showed that the vehicle apparently drove straight across Sesnon Boulevard and continuing going straight, even though Reseda Boulevard ends at Sesnon.

The vehicle appeared to have smashed through a low wall on its way through Porter Ridge Park, which begins where Reseda Boulevard ends.

The Los Angeles Fire Department said in an alert that the crash started a fire, and aerial footage showed a fire engine on Muirkirk Drive, which is across from Porter Ridge Park.

Officers could be seen searching the park with flashlights in the pre-dawn hours, and a white tent, which signifies the presence of a body, was located at the base of a large tree near the park’s playground, as were apparent burn marks.

No information about the deceased has been released.

No other people or vehicles were involved in the crash.

Investigators are working to determine if speed or impairment was a factor.
