The California Highway Patrol is looking for a driver who fatally struck a pedestrian in unincorporated Riverside County early Monday morning and fled the scene without stopping to help.

The collision in Mead Valley near the intersection of Cajalco and Decker roads was reported to authorities at about 7:40 a.m., though investigators believe the pedestrian was struck sometime between 3:15 a.m. and 7 a.m., the CHP said in a news release.

The pedestrian, a 37-year-old from Perris, was found on the shoulder of Cajalco Road east of Decker Road, authorities said.

After the crash, the driver fled on Cajalco Road, leaving the pedestrian at the scene for what might have been several hours.
