The crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. near 4th and Ross streets, according to Cpl. Anthony Bertagna with the Santa Ana Police Department.

The OCTA bus had just pulled away from the curb after a stop and was heading north when it hit the two people, according to police at the scene.

His female companion, an Asian woman in her 60s, was in serious condition but was expected to survive, according to Bertagna.

Both were taken to Western Medical Center.
