A Pasadena elementary school was evacuated Monday after a phoned bomb threat, police said.

The call came in to Willard Elementary School, a 301 Madre St. on the edge of East Pasadena, at 11:50 a.m., Pasadena Police Department Lt. John Mercado said.

School officials chose to move students to the playground, Mercado said.

The campus was safely evacuated and placed on lockdown at 12:35 p.m., which is normal dismissal time on Mondays, according to Hilda Ramirez, a spokeswoman for the Pasadena Unified School District.

Explosive-detecting dogs were being called to the campus to do a security check, Mercado said.

The elementary school is across Madre Street from Wilson Middle School, which Ramirez said continued with normal operations Monday.
