(KRON) — Evacuation orders for the Keller Fire that broke out Friday will be fully lifted by Sunday night, the Oakland Fire Department (OFD) announced on X. All residents who were evacuated can return to their respective homes by 8 p.m.
OFD says the response to the fire that burned more than 15 acres was “successful.” About a total of 200 firefighters from multiple fire departments responded to the blaze.

As of 8 a.m. Sunday, the fire in the Caballo Hills area of East Oakland was 70% contained, according to OFD. Fifty firefighters from OFD and Cal Fire were at the scene to fully extinguish hot spots and clear hazardous vegetation.
Two homes were damaged in the Keller Fire, and about a dozen were threatened at the fire’s peak. No injuries were reported.
As of now, there are no power outages reported in Oakland, according to PG&E’s outage map. The shelter operated by the City of Oakland, Ira Jinkins Community Center, will close at 8 p.m.
Fire crews will remain at the scene overnight and into Monday. Officials said the smell of smoke in the area will persist for the next several days, but that does not indicate an active fire.
