A New York City Fire Department captain was charged Monday with allegedly sexually molesting two boys under the age of 14 in Los Angeles, the L.A. County District Attorney’s office stated.
Wilbert Riera, 51, was arrested Friday at a fire house of Staten Island on a felony warrant for a crime committed against children in Hollywood, Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman Nuria Vanegas said.
He was charged Monday with six felony counts of lewd acts on a child under 14 and waived extradition to California.
The acts occurred between Sept. 12 and 14, according to the DA’s office.
It was not known why Riera was in Southern California or what his relationship was with the two young boys.
Prosecutors were expected to request a $2.6-million bail be set once Riera was extradited from New York.
He was suspended without pay from the FDNY pending the outcome of the investigation.
If convicted he faced life in state prison.
