Fire breaks out at elementary school in Monrovia

Firefighters from multiple agencies responded to a blaze at Bradoaks Elementary School in Monrovia that erupted Wednesday morning.

The fire was first reported around 7:45 a.m. at the school located in the 900 block of East Lemon Avenue.


Arriving crews found smoke and fire coming from one of the school’s buildings and called for assistance from Los Angeles County, a Monrovia fire department spokesperson confirmed.

The fire was declared a knockdown at about 8:15 a.m. but activity could still be found at the scene when Sky5 arrived a few minutes later.

Several people, possibly students and staff, were still standing in an area marked off by yellow tape.

Several holes were also visible in the roof of the school where firefighters worked to ventilate the building.

Classes were scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., about 15 minutes after the fire was reported.

No injuries were immediately reported.
