Firefighters were responding to a blaze burning deep in the Angeles National Forest on Thursday afternoon.
The Shoemaker Fire was reported about 1:20 p.m. near East Fork Road and Glendora Mountain Road (map), according to safety offer Ron Asdale of the U.S. Forest Service.
Containment lines had been established around 5 percent of the 70-acre fire by 7:30 p.m., according to the Angeles National Forest Twitter account. Two firefighters received heat-related injuries and were expected to be fine, a Forest Service spokesman.
The area is in the San Gabriel Mountains, several miles north of Glendora and La Verne and east of the San Gabriel Reservoir.
Portions of Glendora Mountain and Glendora Ridge roads, along with Highway 39, also known as San Gabriel Canyon Road, were closed.
Crews could be seen working on the ground, and several firefighting aircraft were working from overhead, aerial video from Sky5 showed.
Smoke from the fire was being reported blowing east into the Cajon Pass.
Cal Fire, the U.S. Forest Service and the Los Angeles County Fire Department were working the blaze.
The fire started at 12:48 p.m., according to Cal Fire.
The Los Angeles office of the National Weather Service reported the fire was 75 acres at 2:30 p.m., but the Forest Service said it was at 65 acres at about 5:15 p.m.
