The fire was reported about 6:12 a.m. at the apartment building in the 800 block of Fairview Avenue, a spokesman for the Verdugo Fire Communications Center said.

Smoke was showing from the structure when Arcadia Fire Department firefighters arrived at the scene.

The fire appeared to initially be burning in the attic of the structure, according to the spokesman.

The fire spread to 14 units before firefighters from several agencies managed to douse the flames, Arcadia Fire Department Deputy Chief Barry Spriggs said.

Donna Wilson said she left everything behind and went door-to-door with another resident to alert others about the fire until everyone was out.

“I just want my pictures … I can’t replace my mom holding me when I was 3-months-old,” Wilson said through tears.

Aerial video from Sky5 showed flames burning through the roof of the apartment complex as firefighters cut holes in the structure to provide ventilation. A portion of the roof would eventually collapse under the flames.

About 40 residents have been displaced from the now red tagged building, Spriggs said.

The American Red Cross was sent to the scene to assist those impacted by the fire.

No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation.

Update, Aug. 8: A GoFundMe fundraising page has been set up to help the victims of the fire.
