The whereabouts of a 16-year-old girl who disappeared from the Chalfant area in Mono County – in the Eastern Sierra – over the weekend are still unknown Monday morning.

Karlie Lain Guse was last seen during the early morning hours on Saturday in the area of White Mountain Estates Road and Ponderosa Street, the Mono County Sheriff’s Office posted on its Facebook page.

Guse was walking toward U.S. Route 6, which run across the country to Massachusetts, at the time.

The teen does not have a cellphone or any other belongings with her and may be disoriented, the Sheriff’s Office stated.

Scent dogs, helicopters and ground resources were utilized in the search for Guse, but she still had not been located as of Monday afternoon.

An “exhaustive search” took place around her home and in the nearby city of Bishop, which is over the county line in Inyo County, and “many inquiries” had been made with the teen’s friends in Bishop, the Sheriff’s Office said.

“Her family and friends are desperate to find her,” a sheriff’s news release stated Monday afternoon.

The desert-like area where the family lives has recently begun to see cold temperatures overnight, with a low of 33 degrees forecast for Monday evening.

The Guse family has ties to Yerington, Nevada, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office there. Yerrington is in a rural area about 120 miles north-northwest of Bishop.

Melissa Guse, the teen’s mother, posted a Facebook Live message Monday morning explaining that it is completely unlike her daughter to just disappear for no reason.

A Facebook page titled “Bring Karlie Home!” has also been created to spread information about the teen’s disappearance.

Karlie Guse was described as a white female standing 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing about 110 pounds. She has dark brown hair and blue eyes.

The Sheriff’s Office initially said investigators did not have a description of her clothing, but later said the teen might have had on a white T-shirt and gray sweatpants. Her mother said the teen was wearing Vans shoes.

Anyone with information about her location were asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 760-932-7549, option 7.
