Investigators say it was the adult grandchildren of an elderly South Pasadena woman who found her stabbed to death inside her home Tuesday night.

The victim’s grandchildren were conducting a welfare check around 8:45 p.m. in the 800 block of Brent Avenue when they found their grandmother on the floor bleeding and called 911.

“They went in the location where they found a female, white adult suffering from stab wounds to her upper torso. The Fire Department responded and she was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau Lt. Michael Modica said.

Some neighbors told KTLA the victim was Susan Miller, a woman in her 70s. Investigators have not confirmed the woman’s identification yet.

The two-story home remained blocked off by crime scene tape Wednesday morning as the investigation continued. At least one sedan was seen being towed away from the home as evidence.

No details regarding a motive for the stabbing or when it occurred have been released.

Neighbors said the woman had lived for years on the property, which also contains a backhouse.

The victim’s neighbor, James Low, was shocked by the woman’s death.

“My reaction was, ‘How could this be?’” Low said. “She’s a very nice lady. She’s a very low-profile person. We know her because she waters her flowers and she has a cat and we say hi to each other.”

Authorities have not released a description of a possible suspect or suspects.
