Former socialite and convicted murderer Rebecca Grossman’s request for a new trial was denied on Monday.
Grossman, 60, was convicted of two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and one count of hit-and-run driving resulting in death after she fatally struck of Jacob Iskander, 8, and Mark Iskander, 11, in a Westlake Village crosswalk in 2020.
The wife of prominent plastic surgeon Dr. Peter Grossman had been drinking with former baseball star Scott Erickson before the crash.
She asked the court to grant her a new trial due to alleged prosecutorial misconduct and a claim that prosecutors did not meet the burden of proof, but Judge Joseph Brandolino denied that request on Monday, as reported by KCLU.
Grossman objected to the reassignment of prosecutors due to a potential conflict of interest, though a judge ruled that no conflict exists.
The numerous legal maneuvers have the Iskander family upset, the boys’ mother Nancy told KTLA.
“By the system allowing Ms. Grossman to play these games and keep bringing us back, to the healing and the road to hope and healing,” she said. “It’s just very disappointing and sad.”
Grossman faces a sentence of 34 years to life in prison. She’s scheduled to be sentenced June 10.
