Deputies on Thursday asked for the public’s help to find a dog who may have been taken during a residential burglary in San Dimas more than a week ago. Teddy, a 13-year-old Bichon Frise, is believed to have been stolen from a home in the 1100 block of Camino Del Sur on May 15, according to post on the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station’s Facebook page. Authorities initially said the dog had been taken by the burglars before clarifying the missing dog “may have” been stolen during the incident. Burglars took other personal belongings and ransacked the house, the post stated. “Things can be replaced, that’s — the mess can be cleaned up. But Teddy is irreplaceable,” said the dog’s owner, 79-year-old Joyce Vasquez. Speaking through tears at times, her voice choked with emotion, Vasquez told KTLA on Thursday afternoon that her life hasn’t been since her beloved dog went missing eight days prior. “My focus is on my dogs, because he’s 13 years old, and he has seizures. And he hasn’t had any medicine,” she said. Teddy needs medicine on a daily basis to control the condition. At first, Vasquez thought her four-legged companion walked out of the home on his home, as the burglars left the door open. But now, the owner thinks Teddy was stolen. “There’s no way he could’ve gotten out, except that the front door wasn’t completely latched. And it won’t swings shut by itself. If you open it, it stays open,” Vasquez explained. For the past week, she’s passed out fliers around her neighborhood in a desperate search to find the canine. Teddy has white fur, weighs about 18 pounds and has a missing front tooth, Vasquez said. She described the pup as being extremely friendly. The dog is microchipped, and was wearing a royal blue harness with ID tags when he was last seen. Vasquez implored whoever has Teddy to bring him back. “Please, if you have him, turn him into a shelter. I hope he still has his harness, that has my phone number,” she said. The Sheriff’s Department, meanwhile, circulated the photos on social media in an attempt to help track the possibly stolen dog down. “Please help us share his picture in the event anyone has seen him,” deputies pleaded in a Facebook post. “We know it’s a long shot but Teddy is in need of his medication!” Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s station at 909-450-2700.
