High School Football Player Stabbed to Death Outside Taco Bell in Camarillo

A vigil was held Tuesday night for a 16-year-old high school football player who was fatally stabbed in a confrontation outside a Taco Bell restaurant in Camarillo.

Daniel Morales was fatally wounded around 1 p.m. Monday during a fight between two groups of young men in the parking lot of the restaurant located on Flynn Road, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.

A friend rushed the injured teenager to the Ventura County Medical Center where he later died.

A photo of Tyler James Ostertag was released by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.

Tyler James Ostertag, 20, was arrested Tuesday at a motel in Riverside and booked on suspicion of murder.

Friends told KTLA that Morales and Ostertag “knew of each other,”  but the motive behind the fight was unknown.

Morales was set to play his senior year for Newbury Park High School, after transferring from Camarillo High School.

Friends told KTLA that the possibility a college athletic scholarship for Morales appeared promising.

Ostertag was being held on $1 million bail.
