Investigation underway after burned body found in San Bernardino field

An investigation is underway after a burned body was found in a San Bernardino field late Monday night.

According to a spokesperson with the San Bernardino Police Department, officers responded to the corner of Donald and Duffy streets at 10:38 p.m. and located a body that had been burned.

Preliminary information indicates the victim appears to be an adult man, police said.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Multiple evidence markers and yellow tape were seen in the field as police used flashlights to canvass the area for clues.

KTLA 5’s Carlos Herrera described the area as “a remote neighborhood” that lies just north of the 210 Freeway.  Several houses are located across from the field where the body was found, and investigators told him that they would be going door to door looking for surveillance footage later Tuesday morning.

Nearby resident George Flores, who lives in the area with his family, said he saw the fire department arrive late Monday night. He thought it might have been because someone threw a cigarette and it burned, as that had happened in the past.

But he was shocked to learn they were responding to a dead body.

“It’s scary. That could have been anybody,” Flores, said. “That could have been my family, or me.”

A description of a suspect was not immediately available. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the San Bernardino Police Department.
