Candidate for Los Angeles mayor and U.S. Rep. Karen Bass says her home was burglarized overnight.
Bass said Saturday afternoon that her home had been broken into late Friday evening and two firearms were stolen, “despite being safely and securely stored.”
A Bass spokesperson confirmed to the Los Angeles Times that the guns were in a Brinks lockbox.
No other valuables were taken, Bass said.
“It’s unnerving and, unfortunately, it’s something that far too many Angelenos have faced,” she said.
It’s unclear exactly when the break-in happened, but Bass was in attendance and spoke at the National Hispanic Media Coalition annual Impact Awards Gala Friday evening.
Bass said she has been in contact with the Los Angeles Police Department.
Police have not released any specific details about the investigation, even though a press release issued Saturday night contains multiple details that align with the burglary of Bass’s home. In their press release, police identified the scene as being in Baldwin Vista, where the Los Angeles Times reported that Bass lives.
Both the press release and Bass also indicated that two guns were stolen, while electronics, cash, and other valuables were not.
Police described the suspect in the Baldwin Vista burglary as a man who is about 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighs about 200 pounds, and was wearing dark clothing, a surgical mask, a blue baseball cap with a white logo, and black Asics sneakers.

Bass, who currently serves in Congress representing California’s 37th congressional district, is one of two remaining candidates vying for the mayor’s office.
