Investigators have concluded that a claim by an 11-year-old boy that two people in a brown van tried to abduct him on May 28 in Palos Verdes Estates was unfounded, authorities announced Friday.

The boy had said that he was walking home from a school bus stop when a man approached him in a van and asked for directions, after which a second person tried to pull him into the vehicle, the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department said.

According to the boy’s account, he broke free of the person’s grasp and ran home as the van drove away.

After the alleged incident was reported, police released composite sketches of the driver and van that were said to be involved.

In a news release issued Friday, however, the department stated: “After a thorough and thoughtful investigation, we have concluded that there was no attempted kidnapping.”
