Kraft Foods Group has voluntarily recalled nearly 8,000 cases of some of its popular American Singles cheese product amid spoilage concerns, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

The recall, which affects four varieties of Kraft American Singles Pasteurized Prepared Cheese Product, was issued because a supplier improperly stored one of the product’s ingredients based on Kraft’s temperature standards, a news release posted Friday to the FDA’s website stated.

“While unlikely, this could create conditions that could lead to premature spoilage and/or food borne illness; therefore, the company is issuing the recall as a precaution,” the statement read.

Affected products included:

  • 12 ounce Kraft American Singles (16 slices)
  • 16 ounce Kraft American Singles (24 slices) (12 count case)
  • 16 ounce Kraft American Singles (24 slices) (36 count case)
  • 64 ounce Kraft American Singles (4 x 24 slices)

They all had “Best When Used By” dates of Feb. 20, 2015, and Feb. 21, 2015, and were produced at Kraft’s Springfield, Missouri manufacturing facility.

The company has received no reports of illness related to the recalled products, according to the FDA.

Consumers who purchased any of these products were urged not to eat the cheese and return packages to the store where they were purchased for an exchange or full refund.
