A 61-year-old L.A. Marathon runner was conscious Sunday after going into cardiac arrest and being listed in critical condition at a hospital, officials said.
The man was near Mile Marker 22, around San Vicente Boulevard and Montana Avenue in L.A.’s Brentwood neighborhood (map), when the incident occurred around noon, said Veronica Hendrix with the city’s joint information center.
He received immediate medical attention and his pulse was regained, she said.
The man was transported to a nearby hospital and listed in critical condition.
One person went into cardiac arrest at the 2014 L.A. Marathon, Hendrix said. That person survived.
At least 31 people were taken to a hospital, including the runner in critical condition, officials with the city’s joint information center said around 3:50 p.m. The other 30 participants were all listed in stable condition.
It was not immediately known how many runners were still completing the course at that time.
A total of 26,000 people had been expected to run the 30th annual event.
