Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar injured in fall

Los Angeles Lakers icon Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was hospitalized after falling and breaking his hip while attending a concert on Friday, his longtime business partner confirmed.

TMZ Sports first reported the injury, which occurred at an undisclosed concert in the L.A. area.

Abdul-Jabbar, 76, was scheduled to undergo surgery on Saturday.

“We are all deeply appreciative of all the support for Kareem, especially from the Los Angeles Fire Department who assisted Kareem on site and the amazing medical team and doctors at UCLA Hospital who are taking great care of Kareem now,” Deborah Morales shared on Abdul-Jabbar’s X account.

The Lakers and former players offered their best wishes on social media.

“Get well soon, cap,” the team posted on X, formerly Twitter.

“Warmest wishes for a fast and full recovery, Kareem,” another Lakers great, Pau Gasol, shared.

The Hall of Famer, author and activist played 20 seasons in the NBA with the Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks.

He won the league’s Most Valuable Player award six times, was a 19-time all-star, and was a member of six NBA championship teams.

Abdul Jabbar also held the record for the most points ever scored in the NBA until another Laker, Lebron James, passed him earlier this year.
