A witness called authorities about 11:20 p.m. Monday and said they saw someone throwing a lit object into a business on Melrose Avenue, said Lt. Vance Duffy with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Video from the scene showed a broken window and an object on the ground at the DASH Clothing Boutique in the 8400 block of Melrose Avenue.

The “lit object” did not catch anything on fire, Duffy said.

The caller was unable to provide authorities with a description of the person who threw the object, Duffy said, adding that no one had been taken into custody.

The incident was being investigated as an attempted arson.
