The Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday is considering ending the city’s vaccine mandate, which has been in place for three years.

Previous reports indicate the repeal of the mandate would allow the city to rehire workers who lost their job due to a refusal to be vaccinated, a figure that’s believed to be about 86 people, according to City Administrative Officer Matt Szabo.

Vaccine mandates were widespread after the inoculations became available in 2021, though they’ve faced scrutiny as part of numerous lawsuits.

Other cities in Southern California, including San Diego and Long Beach, have already ended their vaccine mandates.

The topic is likely to face a vote late Tuesday morning.
