An investigation continued Saturday into the stabbing of a 77-year-old man during a home-invasion robbery in Malibu, authorities said.
The victim was hospitalized in stable condition after the incident, which was reported about 10:50 p.m. Friday at an apartment in the 20700 block of Pacific Coast Highway, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. His injuries were described as not life-threatening.
Deputies responded to the home after being notified that firefighters were en route to the location regarding a possible stabbing victim, the release said.
The deputies arrived to find the man being transported to a hospital. They then followed the ambulance to the medical center, where they spoke with the victim.
He told investigators that he had been watching television his living room when two men confronted and assaulted him. After struggling with the intruders, he realized that he was bleeding, the sheriff’s statement said.
One of the robbers ransacked the apartment while his accomplice forced the resident to remain in the room, according to authorities, adding that the victim’s personal items were among the stolen property.
The assailants, described only as black men, fled the scene in an unknown vehicle.
