A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after allegedly running over a mother following a verbal altercation with her daughter on a residential street in Hawthorne, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Friday.

The incident occurred in the 13300 block of Doty Avenue (map) shortly after 8:30 p.m. Thursday, a Sheriff’s Department news release stated.

Amir Bass had been arguing a 32-year-old woman in front of the location, when he got into a vehicle and allegedly used it to run over her 67-year-old mother, according to sheriff’s officials. He then took off southbound on Doty Avenue, leaving the woman dying in the street.

The unidentified victim was rushed to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Her daughter also was hospitalized and treated for minor injuries.

Hawthorne police located the vehicle and Bass a short time later and took him into custody, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

An investigation into the incident was ongoing. Authorities have urged anyone with information to call the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau’s Lt. Jauch at 323-890-5500.
