Police detectives on Monday morning arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of shooting his alleged accomplice and two other men earlier this month in the drive-through of a Pomona restaurant, officials said.
Derek Sommer, who is on probation, was taken into custody without incident after an anonymous informant called the Pomona Police Department and said the suspect was in an apartment complex in the 1800 block of West Orange Grove (map), according to a news release.
Sommer and his friend Christian Miranda, 21, both residents of Pomona and known gang members, were standing outside Alberto’s Mexican restaurant in the 1900 block of West Holt Avenue (map) about 6:42 p.m. Oct. 4 when a vehicle pulled up, police said.
Miranda struck one of the occupants of the vehicle in the face and an altercation ensued, during which Sommer brandished a handgun and shot Miranda and two other men, authorities said. Another man was shot at but not struck.
The three wounded men were airlifted to hospitals with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Miranda was later arrested and charged with four counts of attempted murder, police said.
A subsequent investigation identified Sommer as the suspected gunman, and a warrant was issued for his arrest with a bail of $5,000,000.
He was charged with five counts of attempted murder after being taken into custody. The charges include gang and weapons enhancements, the news release said.
