A Rowland Heights man was convicted Monday in the beating death of a Marine reservist outside a restaurant in Old Town Pasadena in 2013.

Fernando Sabino Ramirez was found guilty of one count each of assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury and involuntary manslaughter, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Joshua Martinez, 25, was found lying in the street outside Barney’s Beanery in the 100 block of E. Colorado Boulevard on Aug. 5, 2013 by police responding to reports of an argument.

Witnesses told officers Martinez had been beaten and knocked to the ground, causing him to hit his head on the concrete, according to a news release from the Pasadena Police Department following the crime.

Martinez, who was stationed at Camp Pendleton, was transported to Huntington Hospital with a critical head injury where he later died.

Four other defendants charged in connection with the reservist’s death had already pleaded no contest to one count each of assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury, according to the DA’s Office.

Jonas Cardenas Ramos of San Gabriel and Angel Christopher Moroyoqui of El Monte were expected to be sentenced on Nov. 5, prosecutors said.

Jonathan Pierre Aquino of El Monte and Timothy Scott Coley of West Covina were sentenced on July 16 to three years  formal probation and 60 days of community service.

Ramirez  faced a maximum sentence of nine years in state prison.
