Los Angeles Police Department officers shot and killed a man in South L.A. on Sunday.

The incident occurred around 6:40 p.m. near the 100 block of Colden Street. Officers were responding to a call about an assault with a deadly weapon in the area.

When they arrived, they encountered a man armed with a knife. Officers instructed the male to drop the weapon, but he did not comply, police said.

The man then “advanced toward the officers,” which resulted in them shooting the suspect, LAPD says.

No information has been provided about the identity of the deceased man, and LAPD did not identify the officers involved in the shooting.

The shooting will be investigated by detectives from the LAPD, as well as the District Attorney’s Office.
